After fulfilling a dream of driving a Land Rover across Europe and Africa in 2004, Adrian joined a large international patent and trade mark firm where he became dual-qualified as a Chartered (UK) patent attorney and a European patent attorney in 2009 and 2010 respectively.  In 2012, he joined a smaller UK practice to continue working as a senior patent attorney, before establishing Tandem Patents in 2016.

Adrian enjoys working with a wide variety of engineering and manufacturing clients, particularly established SMEs, and has many years’ experience supporting in-house legal counsel with, for example, patent drafting and prosecution work.

He also advises on validity and infringement matters and has prepared numerous validity and infringement opinions in relation to granted UK and European patents and registered designs.  He has attended examination and opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office in The Hague and Munich, and has also prepared and filed a number of successful third party observations against competitor patent applications.  Adrian also carries out detailed due diligence of IP assets before and after corporate acquisitions.

His first-hand experience of the automotive industry and, in particular, working within a team of professional design and development engineers, importantly helps Adrian to efficiently engage with, and fully understand, fellow engineers when discussing engineering and patent-related matters.  In turn, this tandem of engineering and legal experience enables Adrian to become a valuable addition to the engineering teams he works with and advises.

Nick has over 30 years of experience in providing intellectual property services, with a focus on IP strategy, IP value creation, and Intellectual Property Management (IPM).

Nick enjoys working with a wide variety of clients including corporations, SMEs, startups, investors, and universities.

He specialises in global patent portfolio management, patent prosecution, and European Patent Office Oppositions and Appeals.  He also has expertise in infringement risk assessment, Freedom-To-Operate FTO) assessments, and IP-related agreements.

Nick began his IP career with Alcan International and continued his professional training at the UK Atomic Energy Authority and ExxonMobil Chemical where he completed his qualifications as a patent attorney.

In private practice, he worked at Partner level for firms such as DLA Piper, HGF, and Marks & Clerk.  He founded White & Associates, which was sold to Rouse International, where he joined the executive team and led the global patent practice.  He later founded Tangible IP in 2007 and joined Tandem as a consultant in 2024.

Before his IP career, Nick worked in R&D roles at ICI Mond Division, Coates Brothers (Inks) Plc, and Howson-Algraphy (DuPont Imaging).

She has particular experience in the management of large global brand portfolios, having been responsible for the day-to-day management of one of the world’s largest swimwear brands, as well as a global electronics retailer.

Jennifer has acted on behalf of a large number of retail, fashion and food clients from start-ups through to large multi-nationals, and has significant expertise in providing commercially-relevant advice and strategies.  She joined Tandem as a consultant in 2024.

Richard is also a Representative before the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for EU registered designs, and supports Tandem on a consultancy basis adding to the strength and breadth of the engineering expertise and resource Tandem provides.

Richard holds a research Master’s degree on computer chip design, and also a degree in computer & electronic engineering from Trinity College at the University of Dublin.  He also organises regular tutorials for the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) in Strasbourg to help Irish trainees preparing to become European patent attorneys and also tutors on patent law relating to inventiveness.
